Yallah! June 3, 2004 By Soraya
Belly Dancing has been a huge part of my life from a very early, tender age. It is pure joy in motion and a spiritual celebration of life. I remember Raq' assa ya Balady as far back as 4 years old, when I began to dance Arabic with my family. They would have many parties, family events, weddings. I was rarely left home with the baby-sitter! It was inevitable that Middle Eastern dance would be my calling in life. I grew with the melodic, exotic ethnic music, dance and culture constantly around me as a kid. To my family, belly dancing was a natural as breathing...we hear the music, we dance, we celebrate!
My parents were great folk dancers and in my family heritage, art, music and dance goes back many, many years. Since the start of my career as a youth, my cultural dance art has taken me all over the US and world. I try to preserve belly dancing and show the general public how beautiful it is. Unfortunately, there are still too many misconceptions. Belly Dancing doesn't discriminate and is perfect for people of all ages and genders. This ancient dance is one of the oldest, greatest artistic and creative expressions known to humankind. It encompasses and embraces every human emotion as it celebrates joy, happiness, truth and living. What can be better than that? Nothing.
I try and make my cultural website not only artistic and fun, but informative with educational writings, academic explorations, as well as Anthropological facts and much more!
I invite everyone to check it out and say hello at:
