Women love belly dance. We fall in love with the music, sequins, glitter, femininity and beauty. Here, I have begun to collect the thoughts, feelings, and writings of women who dance. In the following pages you will find an elegant collage of words that express the meaning of belly dance. I hope to expand this project. If you would like to contribute, please write me at: wingeddancer123@hotmail.com. I will post anything you want without editing. You can include your name, e-mail, website, or any other information you like. Or you can be anonymous Here are dancer's voices:
Unashamed Bellydance by Shir-El
With every long note memories become motion Sensuous swirls of feeling move- tear from my mind Eloquent stories unfurl due to music-bewitching me to move, to dance With every drum rattle joy breaks free into motion Sweet sweat swimming down my back, moving my hips New connections form from me to them, and music to me With every winding song my body translates notes into motion Lovely language of lust, devotion, fear, and spirituality Unknown memories glance into my eyes as the body undulates With dance I break free From time From space With dance I stand still In a moment lost long ago or one to come In a place I have yet to see or have been before This dance washes away pain, joy, anger, and belief And bring forth feelings only the bellydancer will know Sensuous, Eloquent, Sweet, New, Lovely, Unknown These are but a glance at the feelings of bellydance As many sparkles a diamond throws, bellydance has new feelings to offer
Healer. Friend. by Nadia Adler
Heals broken bones and wounded spirits that come to it's fount to drink. God inspired, love impelled, catalyst for growth in a world hostile to all things powerfully divine. Feminine. It is the ancient dance for modern woman. Therapist, lover and friend. It asks not age, size or reason. It calls your name to come to the alter of life. Reach deep within.
Bring out into the shameless light womanhood. Strong, free, unhindered by steely eye, unstopped by ruthless hand, and ungentle touch.
Release the fears, entrapment, questioning glare. Let go mine arm and release me to be,... and to be...and to be...into this shameless light the God creature that I am.
Ask me not to cover my belly, to cover my head, to cover my eyes as you brutalize this world that she created.
Let me dance for now. Until I come back and take over, and love. Take it back from your bloody hands, and bring it back
in to my eternal womb. But for now let me dance. |
