Shopping:
Mahmoud Abd Ghaffar: 73 Gawhar Al-Qayid St. Khan El Khalili, Cairo tel: 202-589-7443 fax: 202-390-0357 Mahmoud's four story shop is wonderful for accessories (skirts, jewelry, canes, veils, shoes, etc.). He has many dresses; however, when I visited (Aug. 2003) he did not have a large selection of two piece costumes.

He has a large selection of hip scarves but not many costumes. As of Aug. 2003 he plans to enlarge his store. Ahmed has the nicest candelabras I saw in Egypt (and he ships).

All of her costumes are fixed prices and not negotiable. She takes only US dollars and Euros. While her designs are beautiful and elegant, I recommend crazy gluing each and every rhinestone since they fall out with use.

You can sit down with her in her studio and choose the fabric, fringe, stones, applique, etc. Moreover, you can design a one of a kind fashion on paper that Eman will create at a later date. Yet, I must stress that Eman often takes longer to make a costume than she estimates. Unless you have a lot of time in Egypt, don't expect the costume to be finished before you leave. Plan to have it mailed.
